Dear Lord…..

Dear Father, I have a few questions for you tonight.  I know I may not know for all eternity but one day if You would be honored in letting Your curious child know I'd be grateful…

Why do people who say they love democracy and free enterprise in our republic say it's not socialism to give "tax refunds" to those who don't pay taxes?  Isn't that really just stealing from people and giving it to those who quite frankly are just too lazy to work?

Why, oh Lord, do all the most delicious things have saturated fat and cause diabetes?  And why can't the goodies in life, like ice cream and cookies and brownies and meat wrapped in bacon and dipped in sugar–why, Lord, can't they be health foods?

Why are my children quiet until I get on the phone, on the potty, or in a frantic situation?  And especially if I have a frantic situation on the phone while I'm on the potty.  That always solicits a scream from somewhere in the family.

Why, dear Lord, do the ones we love the most have the ability to injure us most?

And the waist, Lord, why did you make what was supposed to be tiny and attractive just sit RIGHT above where all our baby pudge would reside for the rest of our lives on earth?  It's like a big, giant boob from your belly button to your pelvic bone.  Is this attractive to you?  Do you see beauty here?  Why can't everyone?  Why can't muffin tops be hot?

Why do clowns scare people when they are supposed to make us laugh?

Lord, why is it that the most absolute precious time in a woman's life– when she has just experienced the miracle of birth and life– why is it that she's so exhausted that she can't enjoy it?  I would love to know that one.

Did you make the little bitty dogs to really survive in the wild or are they some weird cultivation of the species?  Seriously, I'd like to know how that happened.

And finally dear Lord, I'd love to know how you thought up the way babies came out.  I'm just askin'.

Lord, now my kids are home and I will no longer be able to think of these questions.  I'm sure I'll have more.  Children always do.

Amen.

i just clicked over to your blog from boomama’s link. what a funny post – SO true about the best foods being the worst for you.

however, as a master of social work student who has read the literature, i was really saddened that you wrote about poor people being “too lazy to work.” did you know that 70% of the homeless/jobless populations are either veterans or are mentally ill? these are folks who are unable to function like the rest of us and do not have the resources (like money or transportation) to seek the help they need in order to become contributing citizens. it is a myth in america that the social services that we currently offer are sufficient.

as christians, we’re mandated to feed the hungry and clothe the naked – not blame them or punish them for being in the state that they’re in.

so, thanks for the humor in this post but please be a little more mindful of judging our fellow americans.

Thanks for your comment. I suppose the homeless and mentally won’t be filing taxes to get that β€œrefund?” Caring for the downtrodden is a responsibility of the church/body of Christ. I’m a better steward of that than the government is. πŸ˜€

Kim

Hey – could you post the recipe for the cockatail thingies you took to Boomama’s last night? Thanks!

Wow! Perplexing questions. I’ve had most of them myself—never the phone, potty, screaming thing all at once though. Lots in our society are socialists at heart–they’ve been brainwashed by our liberal media/govt. whether they know it or not!! They want to call it being “Christian”, but letting the govt. have control of the programs–will always be abused. We can be so blinded by our culture that we shut out that we are better stewards as Christians of our money if we obey the commands of Christ than any man made institution could ever be!
Thanks for the recipe.

hi! just clicking around, but did not realize you were friends with my pal Sophie.

When my 4th was born, he was in the NICU for 2 weeks. It was awful, it was traumatic…BUT. Being that he was my fourth, I knew that there was a fairly large silver lining in all this in that 1) I was going to get to sleep until he came home and 2) the nurses would schedule him for me. πŸ˜‰

After he came home, I would wake up at 3am to feed him and actually be smiling. Can you imagine? I never got exhausted and frustrated like I did with the others, even though I had 3 toddlers I was dealing with as well.

So I totally get you on the 8th one!!
